Kyoto Table by G. Frattini

During a visit to Japan in the early 70s, the italian designer Gianfranco Frattini and his friend the master woodworker Pierluigi Ghianda, had the idea of producing a table inspired by the local ateliers. This piece, although direct product of the italian craftmanship and design of the second half of 20th century, is a clear reminescence, even from the name, of the asian architecture. This is an example of a perfectly integrated influence, where a visual inspiration is able not only to merely produce a copy, but to create a new design with its own identity.

The design of the first chair originates from ancient Greece. This in particular is known as a Klismos chair. There are two main features that allow us to recognize it: the outwards curving legs and the curved backrest. The design of this second chair originates from the Medieval times. The main feature that is attributed to this time period are the arcs on the back of the chair. The straight and basic design of the legs and stretchers are also commonly seen features.
