Questions 2 and 3

Reason # 2 : Choice of design

I can honestly make a judgement about my choice of design or patterns because during this competency I tried Traditional techniques, but I innovated or changed methods...

I at first struggled to come up with a design for my picture frame. I did not like my tests with geometrical designs so I decided to go with the names of my 3 children and then when looking to fill in space between them I came up with idea do add them to a vine on it which would represent them growing.

I then decided to fill the interior of the frame with a marquetry design using 3 M's to represent my 3 children, Mandie, Megan and Michael. I used the package method where I was able to cut out background and the three M's all in different colors and then pressed the final assembly on a piece of mdf.

Reason # 3

My opinion about how this competency was thought is….

My thoughts on this competency were that it showed us the different side of cabinetmaking in that we had to think more artistically and work with much finer products and tools.

Past competencies were all about big tools and big cuts where this one was more about using very delicate products manipulated with much smaller and precise tools forcing us to think on a much smaller scale and work much more delicately.

It also showed us furniture through history and enabled us to look at where our tastes seem to gravitate towards and gave us many new ideas on where to take our styles.
