Essex County Cupboard
by Peter Follansbee (2021)
Essex County Cupboard

This cupboard is a modern reproduction of a 17th century New England era cupboard. Some of its medieval-era characteristics are that the cupboard is very large, made of heavy oak, and ornately decorated, both in turnings and carvings. That much of the decoration is painted is very much in the medieval influence as well. Even though many cupboards' details, like the bun feet and the egg / oval shape turnings are very 17th century style, I think the overall detailed look they create is very medieval fashion.

"Tipsy" Cabinet

"Tipsy" Cabinet by Wayne Halabourda (2024)
To me, this Cabinet does not seem to be strongly influenced by the classical nor medieval period. It's very light, asymmetrical, non-rectilinear, and plays with the form much more than serving function. I think of classical & medieval furniture often containing motifs of nature & other elements via carvings and other small details. Here, the shape itself dominates the cabinet's look more than any detail, kind of like the Art Nouveau or Modernist styles.
